Chorister Expectations Print E-mail
  1. Commitment. Participation in the Girl Choir is a year-long commitment. Girls who enroll as choristers are expected to remain as an active part of the choir throughout the entire year, including camps and tours.
  2. Attendance. Regular, reliable attendance is of the utmost importance. Every chorister is expected to attend every rehearsal, performance, and special event, and to arrive on time or early for every event. Please plan carefully so that nothing takes precedence over attending the requisite number of rehearsals, performances, and other events each semester.
  3. Rehearsal discipline. Good rehearsal technique is important. Rehearsal technique is the combination of good vocal production habits and musical attitudes of eagerness and diligence. Self-discipline and attention to the director are of paramount importance. Choristers are expected to bring their music folders and sharpened pencils to every rehearsal.
  4. Attitude. Be an eager chorister, eager to learn, eager to do it right the first time and better each subsequent time.
  5. Personal practice outside of rehearsal. Practice is the meaningful repetition of a skill to create the best possible final product. The best experience for each chorister and the Girl Choir as a whole is only possible when each member has learned the music. Choristers are responsible for spending adequate time in personal practice to accomplish this.
  6. Music theory. Music theory assignments will be given and graded weekly. These assignments include both lessons as well as homework so that parents/guardians can provide assistance regardless of musical experience. All choristers (except for Figlie di Coro) are expected to pass the test for at least two levels of music theory each season.
  7. Uniforms. Every chorister must appear in a presentable uniform at every performance. A presentable uniform is one that is clean, tailored to fit, and in conformance with the uniform requirements. Some uniform articles will be issued to each chorister by the Girl Choir; others will be the responsibility of the chorister to provide.
  8. Volunteerism and fundraising. The Girl Choir relies upon the support of its volunteers. All choristers and their parents/guardians are expected to contribute to the success of the Girl Choir by volunteering and participating in all fundraising activities.
  9. Participation in other choirs. Sharing the skills learned in the Girl Choir with other choirs helps to strengthen the entire South Florida singing community. Choristers of the Girl Choir are encouraged to participate in choirs at their schools and/or places of worship (where available).
