The Girl Choir of South Florida consists of four choirs: Primes Choir, Apprentice Choir, Concert Choir, and Chamber Singers. The approximate age ranges of members of each choir are as follows:

  • Primes Choir – ages 7 through 10
  • Apprentice Choir – ages 9 through 13
  • Concert Choir – ages 12 through 18
  • Chamber Singers – ages 14 through 18
(All members of Chamber Singers are also members of Concert Choir)

Placement in a particular choir is determined by the Artistic Director based upon the combination of a chorister’s age, maturity, skill, and experience. Choristers are placed in the choir where they will be the most successful and in which they will develop the skills they need to progress.

The Artistic Director is solely responsible for acceptance of a chorister into the organization, for placement of a chorister into a particular choir, and for promotion of a chorister to the next choir level. Audition does not guarantee acceptance into the organization.

Promotions are determined by a chorister’s demonstrated ability to be successful as a member of the choir. Factors which indicate that a chorister is ready to be promoted to the next higher choir level include (but are not limited to):

  • Positive attitude in rehearsal and performance
  • Regular attendance at all rehearsals, performances, and events
  • Development and maturation of the voice
  • Ongoing development of musicianship skills
  • Regular completion of at least two levels of music theory per year
  • Proper care of assigned uniforms elements and sheet music
  • Positive representation of the organization at all times during public events
  • Participation in volunteering and fundraising activities
  • On-time payment of fees and tuition
  • Compliance with all organization policies and guidelines

Participation in any performance event is at the discretion of the artistic and administrative staff of the Girl Choir.

Membership in the Girl Choir of South Florida is based upon the ability of each chorister and her family to fulfill the terms of membership and to comply with all organization policies. For choristers who fail to comply with these terms or fail to uphold acceptable standards of rehearsal technique, performance practice, and/or attendance, the Girl Choir reserves the right to review and possibly revoke their membership in the Girl Choir.
