Attendance Policy Print E-mail

Creating choral music is a group activity. Consequently, each and every member of the Girl Choir is vital to the rehearsal and performance experience for all. Therefore, every chorister is expected to attend all rehearsals and performances. Choristers should arrive up to 15 minutes before scheduled starting time to check-in and prepare for the rehearsal or event.

All choristers are allowed three (3) absences per semester. A chorister who accrues four (4) or more absences in a single semester will forfeit her position as a member of the Girl Choir.

Choristers should reserve their allowed absences for when they are absolutely needed. Choristers must review the Master Calendar and plan accordingly for any conflicts, such as sports practices, games, and tournaments; school concerts, ceremonies, and trips; and family vacations, events, and other activities.

Absences will be accrued according to the following schedule:

Missing a rehearsal for any reason

1 absence

Arriving more than 30 minutes after rehearsal begins

1/2 absence

Leaving more than 30 minutes before rehearsal ends

1/2 absence

Missing one or more days of camp, tour, or other multi-day event

1 absence per day missed

Missing a performance with two or more weeks advance notice

1 absence

Missing a performance due to illness (notification may be given only on the day of the event prior to the call time of the event)

1 absence

Missing a performance without notification or with less than two weeks advance notice

2 absences

Absences are neither “excused” nor “unexcused” – all absences are simply absences.

Notification may only be given by official communication (see the Communication Guidelines section of this handbook). Choristers may not give official notification of planned absences to artistic staff or volunteers – notification must come from the chorister’s parent or guardian.

Extenuating circumstances regarding absences (such as extended illness or death in the family) may be considered by the Girl Choir staff. Such circumstances must be described in writing through official communication as soon as possible.

Any questions or issues regarding the correctness of attendance records should be made in writing through official communication.
