Volunteering

The Girl Choir relies upon its volunteers to perform the majority of its administrative functions. All families are expected to volunteer their time in support of the Girl Choir. Volunteers are always needed to perform the following activities:

  • Serving as choir parents and supervising choristers during rehearsals
  • Setting up chairs before rehearsals and cleaning up after rehearsals
  • Grading music theory assignments and tests
  • Coordinating sales and production of the annual Playbill (ad book)
  • Selling concessions at concerts and other events
  • Cleaning, tailoring, and sewing uniforms
  • Directing vehicular and pedestrian traffic at special events
  • Transportation, setup and teardown of equipment at performances and special events
  • Photography and video recording of performances and special events
  • Sorting, filing, and maintaining inventory of the music library
  • Office work such as copying, filing, and envelope assembly
  • Bookkeeping and official record-keeping
  • Publicity and promotion of auditions and events
  • Development activities, including solicitation of donations
  • Researching, writing, and submitting grant applications

Keeping records of volunteer activities is critical to support grant applications and reports that the Girl Choir is required to provide. Records of volunteer activities must be kept in the official volunteer log book.

Fundraising

The Girl Choir relies upon fundraising activities to keep the cost of its program affordable to all interested girls. All choristers and families are expected to participate in all fundraising activities, including both promotion and contribution.
