The Concert Choir is honored to have been invited to perform as part of Festival 500 Sharing the Voices this summer in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada! Tour rehearsals begin Tuesday, June 7, and the tour will take place from July 5 through July 14, 2011.

- WELCOME TO THE GIRL CHOIR OF SOUTH FLORIDA’S 2011-2010 SEASON! We have an exciting year of great music-making, events, and performances ahead of us, and we’re glad you’re here! Each Tuesday, you will receive a memo with important dates and information concerning our choirs—please review these memos carefully.
- Our theory program will begins this week! Today, all choristers will receive a white theory folder with their first assignment(s) of the season. Our new monthly theory classes will begin tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 8; this week’s class is for theory levels A, B, and C, and will be held from 5:30-6:30 at The Blake School (7011 W. Sunrise Blvd., Plantation, 33313). PLEASE COME IN THROUGH THE EAST DOOR, NOT THE WEST GATE-please plan to drop off, as parking is reserved for the school PTO meeting). These supplemental classes will focus on ear-training and sight-singing, and will give choristers a chance to ask questions about their worksheets. While attendance is not mandatory, it is highly encouraged!
- Need more girlchoir in your life? Go to info.girlchoir.org and click on gift shop, where you’ll find lots of fun girlchoir items—even a left-handed coffee mug, for people like Mrs. Peterson!
- Please check our on-line calendar regularly for updates or revisions. Remember, info.girlchoir.org is the place to find all the latest news and updates for GCSF families.
- All Choirs: Please add the evening of Friday, April 15 to your calendar—we will be performing as a part of the concert series at our “old” home—Plantation United Methodist Church.
- Apprentice Choir and Concert Choir: Tour commitment forms were sent home tonight. Forms and deposits are due Sept. 21.
- Concert Choir: Please add the following performance dates: Nov. 21 at the Pink Church in Pompano with Master Chorale, and Dec. 5 as a tentative afternoon performance at St. Nick.
- Concert Choir: On the evening of Saturday, September 11, plan to attend an ICE CREAM SOCIAL at Eliza’s house—details are being sent home today!
- REGISTRATION WAS DUE LAST WEEK. Please make sure you have read and submitted all paperwork for this season.

The season-kickoff ice cream social for all Concert Choir and Chamber Singers members is coming this Saturday, September 11, from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the home of chorister Eliza Hurst, located at 371 SE 14th Ave in Pompano Beach ( click here for a map). It'll be lots of fun ... see you there!

- Our PARENT MEETING will take place in the sanctuary at Davie UMC during your chorister’s regularly scheduled rehearsal on TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 7. At least one parent from each GCSF family must be in attendance for these meetings. Parents of girls in the PRIMES and APPRENTICE CHOIRS will meet from 4:45 - 5:45. Parents of young ladies in the CONCERT & CHAMBER CHOIRS will meet from 6:15 until 7:00.
- Our theory program will begin on Tuesday, September 7. (If you are a returning member and you brought your folder to the first rehearsal, you will receive your folder next week, and you will begin where you left off last year). Please read the attached memo which summarizes our music theory program and the enhanced sessions now being offered on Wednesdays at the Blake School.
- We have attached a calendar of the year’s events which is also available on-line. Please check our calendar regularly for updates or revisions.
- Also attached is flier for AUDITIONS which will take place at The Blake School this Friday, September 3, 2010 from 5:30 – 7:30. We hope to increase our membership; you can help by having your chorister post a flier at their school. If they’re unable to that, please post it at a local business (supermarket or coffee shop).
- Looking ahead to Saturday, September 11, 2010…We are having our first social event and it is for the Concert Choir and Chamber Singers. Plan to attend an ICE CREAM SOCIAL time & location TBA .

At rehearsal this week, we will be taking a collection for the family of Karen Roberts, our choir mother who passed away last week. Choristers should place their donations in an envelope marked "Karen Roberts". Cash or checks will be accepted. The checks must be made payable to "Roberts Children College Fund". Please help if you can.

The Broward Center for the Performing Arts, located in the heart of the Arts and Entertainment District in Downtown Fort Lauderdale, is seeking high school students with an interest in the performing arts for the Broward Center Teen Ambassador program. Twenty-four students will be accepted into this all-new program and will contribute to establishing a vital informational link to their peers regarding the arts both locally and nationally. In addition to this, the Teen Ambassadors will attend performances presented at the Broward Center and its affiliated venues in order to expand their interest in the arts and be asked to provide reviews for postings on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, or BrowardCenter.org. Broward Center Teen Ambassadors will receive Community Service hours for their participation in the program which will run from September 2010 - June 2011.
